Communications and Advocacy Officer at Plan International EU Office

PLAN International will implement a three (3) year project entitled “Collective Action Against Trafficking”. The overall goal of the project is to capacitate the government, communities and civil society to realize effective protection mechanisms preventing girls and boys up to 17 years old and young women and young men aged 18 to 30 years from all forms of human trafficking and provide recovery support to victims of human trafficking. The project will be implemented in three years, covering four provinces – Leyte and Southern Leyte in Eastern Visayas, Misamis Oriental in Northern Mindanao and Surigao del Norte in Caraga.
In this regard, PLAN International Philippines invites highly competent, experienced and committed professionals to fill the following position:
COMMUNICATIONS AND ADVOCACY OFFICER
The Communications and Advocacy Officer leads the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the project. He/she will plan, develop and implement an appropriate advocacy strategy for Plan Philippines. He/she will coordinate and communicate with other development networks with key decision makers, and serves as liaison with national media. This role is based in Tacloban, Leyte, Philippines.
Some of the other key responsibilities are: 1.) develop/coordinate and lobby to promote more effective policymaking at the national levels where the project is working; 2.) develop and maintain close contacts with national and local media on children’s issues related to On-line child sexual exploitation and abuse, trafficking, gender inequality, among others; 3.) organize press conferences and briefings, develop fact sheets and talking points, line up interviews and media related interviews, and 4.) represents and promotes Plan in important events in the community, city and national levels.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A graduate of Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, or Management or Social Sciences. A post-graduate degree is an advantage.
- Has relevant experience in Community Organizing/ Community Development; Program/Project Management; Event Organizing.
- Has at least three (3) years’ experience in doing advocacy work for children.
- Has knowledge of the Child Protection Issues and programs in the Philippines.
- Has good command of oral and written communication.
- Applicants must have the right to work in the Philippines without restrictions. Local applicants are preferred.
