Assistant Accountant – Fauna and Flora International

This is an exciting new full-time permanent position that will encompass a broad range of tasks across the financial accounting function, where the post holder will work closely with UK-based Finance Team members to contribute to the efficient and effective performance of the FFI financial accounting function.

The ideal candidate will have previous demonstrable experience of monitoring and controlling financial accounts. You will need to have strong communication skills, good technical knowledge and a high attention to detail. You must be familiar with working to deadlines and experience of working in a global charity would be an advantage. You should also be comfortable working as part of a team, as well as using your own initiative.

Purpose of the role

To perform a broad range of financial accounting tasks that will contribute to the efficient and effective performance of the FFI financial accounting function, ensuring that high standards and
good practice are maintained.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, including aged debtor analysis and bank account reconciliations
  • Monitoring of bank accounts and performing monthly petty cash counts
  • Accruals, prepayments and adjustments
  • Updating the fixed asset register
  • Entering of cashbooks from overseas entities
  • Reallocation of overhead costs
  • Reconciliations to the fundraising database

General Responsibilities

  • Provide support for grant and statutory audits
  • Provide purchase and sales ledger cover when necessary
  • Provide cover for the Financial Controller in the review of payment runs when necessary
  • Provide timesheet processing cover when necessary
  • Provide input as needed into the implementation of new systems and procedures
  • Provide staff training on processes where necessary
  • Respond to general queries and undertake ad hoc tasks

Duties may be altered, reasonably added or delegated from time to time to reflect changes within the organisation’s activities and structure.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in similar roles
  • Experience of working in a multi-currency environment
  • Experience of communicating financial information to non financial staff
  • Experience of working with financial accounting software
  • Experience of working to deadlines
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel experience, and highly proficient at using Microsoft Outlook and Word
  • Comfortable managing multiple tasks with autonomy
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good at prioritising workloads
  • AAT qualified, CCAB part-qualified or equivalent
  • Highly organised and able to work under own initiative
  • Demonstrates rigor, diligence and attention to detail in approach
  • Entitlement to work in the UK

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a global organisation and with different cultures
  • Experience of the Charity sector
  • Experience of compliance requirements for a UK-based company, such as VAT, PAYE etc
  • Interest in and empathy with the mission and values of FFI

Salary: £28,000- £30,000
