Vacancy: Programme Officer – Mediation Quality Programme (MQP)

cosmopolitalians.eu-logo-tmbThe European Institute of Peace (EIP) was launched in 2014 to complement and add value to EU and European peace-making by undertaking multi-track diplomacy, in particular informal diplomacy, and offering practitioners-driven good practices in evolving modern conflict resolution techniques. The EIP has a unique structure as an independent institution whose core members are European states, both inside and outside the EU, who share a common commitment to a global peace agenda.

EIP’s Mediation Quality Programme (MQP) is specifically designed to act as a golden thread throughout EIP operations, ensuring that everything we do manifests the highest professional standards. This is achieved through a carefully tailored approach where MQP leads or participates in external projects at the forefront of ensuring high quality and innovative approaches in mediation, which in turn feeds into and enables in-house support. This same mechanism, coupled with the EIP’s special mandate, allows us to act as a value-adding mediation support partner to external actors. MQP is now looking for an experienced full-time Programme Officer to be an integral part of our team to support and work closely with their Mediation Director in their Brussels office.

Reporting to the Mediation Director, the MQP Programme Officer will:

  • Design, develop and undertake high-level coaching and in-house training activities;
  • Develop new concept ideas, design projects and draft funding proposals;
  • Fundraise and liaise with external actors in the field of conflict resolution;
  • Interact with high-level delegates and diplomats;
  • Conduct in-depth research, compile briefing materials and prepare speeches for senior leadership;
  • Support the outreach efforts of MQP and organise in-house events;
  • Supervise 1-2 trainees.

The competencies and qualifications for this position include:

  • A post graduate degree (masters) in political science, conflict resolution, international relations, or related field;
  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience in conflict resolution, peace-making, diplomacy and mediation, including working with governments, international organisations, regional organisations and other relevant actors (HQ and field experience);
  • Proven expertise in training and coaching;
  • Strong analytical and writing skills;
  • Sound political judgement, good inter-personal skills and networking ability;
  • Perfect command of English and French (written and spoken), Spanish is desirable;
  • Sound organisational skills and strong attention to detail;
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and able to work well under deadlines;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
