Vacancy for Regional Strategic Communications Officer in Tbilisi, Georgia

cosmopolitalians.eu-logo-tmbThe British Embassy in Tbilisi is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Regional Strategic Communications Officer (Caucasus) for conflict resolution issues to be based in Tbilisi (preferably) (but could still consider Yerevan or Baku). This role is designed to help develop constructive discussions on conflict-related issues affecting the wider Caucasus region, with a particular emphasis on Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia and to work closely with Communications officers in London and in our Embassies across the wider region to coordinate and develop messages which stimulate active and constructive discussions on conflict issues affecting the wider region.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To work on Strategic Communications on conflict issues affecting the Caucasus region.
  • Use a complete range of media tools to advance thinking on conflict resolution.
  • Develop new content for social and traditional media.
  • Job holder will report to the Regional Conflict Advisor for the Caucasus and work closely with Press officers in British Embassies across the region.

Essential Requirements

  • University degree (or equivalent) (In absence of degree – proof of professional experience in public relations/ communications on sensitive issues over a 5 year period).
  • Professional experience in public relations and/or communications over a 3 year period (or 5 years if no university degree), including responsibility for running specific campaigns.
  • Ability to deliver effective messages to different audiences, using appropriate tools.
  • High proficiency in managing social media accounts, including content creation (e.g. Facebook, Twitter etc.).
  • Ability to deliver clear messages using digital tools, including concise language, graphics and videos.
  • Experience of using online analytical tools to measure reach and impact of social media accounts.
  • Experience in at least two projects of developing social media presence and increasing number of followers.
  • Knowledge of conflict issues affecting the Caucasus region.
  • Ability to assess and analyse information trends across the region

​Required Experience & Skills

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Fluent English and Russian (written and oral).
  • Ability to read one or more additional languages from the wider region.(For example: Armenian, Azeri, Georgian, Turkish)
  • Ability and willingness to work effectively and flexibly on special events/occasions;
  • IT Skills (Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook and Word).

Desirable

  • Fluent in at least one other language from the wider region (Armenian, Azeri, Georgian, Turkish).
  • Track record of designing and implementing creative media solutions (traditional and/or new media).
  • Detailed understanding of the media landscape across the region (both traditional and new media).
  • Ability to adapt to changing social media environment, identifying and using new media tools.
  • Track record of collaboration and teamwork within and between organisations.
  • Experience of building networks and using third parties to amplify key messages.
  • Ability to respond quickly to fast-moving situations.

  • Some travel to British Embassies across the region

Terms and Conditions

  1. The successful candidate will be subject to a professional background check and security clearance.
  2. Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by local law.
  3. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Tbilisi is subject to local Terms and Conditions of Service
