Type of Appointment :  Special short term, until 30th April 2017 – with possibility of extension

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Context:

 

Under the direct supervision of the Officer in Charge, the incumbent will have the following duties and responsibilities:

 

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the implementation of the “Protecting children in the context of the refugee and migrant crisis in Europe” project as the National Focal Point for Slovenia, based on the instructions of the Project Manager
  2. Organize and participate in the project events and capacity building meetings
  3. Participate in the development of the Standard Operating Procedures
  4. Participate in the development of a common, child-specific monitoring template to facilitate the collection of standardized, comparable data in the participating countries
  5. Participate in the development of child-friendly information packages on the rights of migrant children and on the services available to them
  6. Monitor the production and distribution of child-friendly information packages in various facilities hosting migrant families and children
  7. Analyse and share the data collected based on the common, child-specific monitoring template through interviews with children, families and professionals, through visits to accommodation facilities and through the collection of administrative and statistical data
  8. Provide regular feedback on the progress of various activities to the Project Manager
  9. Provide information on project-related expenditures to the Finance and Admin Assistant
  10. Work alongside institutions, international organizations and NGOs at local level
  11. Cooperate with other National Focal Points
  12. Report on best practices, lessons learned, and data collection methodologies and provide any data on field developments as requested by the Project Manager
  13. Respond to ad-hoc queries related to the activities as National Focal Point
  14. Respect IOM’s Data Protection Principles
  15. Perform such other duties as they might be assigned

Required Qualifications and Experience

 

Education

  • University degree in a relevant area (Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Law) with at least 3 years of relevant professional experience;

or

  • Completed High School degree from an accredited academic institution with 5 years of relevant professional experience;
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Experience

  • Experience in working and liaising with governments, UN agencies and  international cooperating partners is an advantage
  • Knowledge of social and development issues as well as general migration related issues is required
  • Good understanding and knowledge on issues related to migration policy and practice in Slovenia is required
  • Experience with migration-related data collection and data analysis is a distinct advantage
  • Experience with EU-funded projects is required
  • Experience working in the field of child protection is required
  • Good understanding and knowledge on child protection systems and policies in Slovenia is required

 

Languages

  • Fluency in English and Slovenian is a requirement.
  • Working knowledge of any other IOM official language is an advantage.

A prerequisite for taking up the position is legal residency in the country of the duty station, and work permit.
