Policy / Communication Intern – OpenForum Europe (OFE)

OpenForum-Europe-OFE-logoOpenForum Europe (OFE) is a not-for-profit industry organization which was originally launched in 2002 to accelerate and broaden the use of Open Source Software (OSS) among businesses, consumers and governments. OFE’s role has since evolved and its primary role now is to promote the use of open standards in ICT as a means of achieving full openness and interoperability of computer systems throughout Europe. It continues to promote open source software, as well as openness more generally as part of a vision to facilitate open, competitive choice for IT users. OFE is supported by major IT suppliers (including RedHat, Google, IBM, Oracle), user and consumer organisations, and national partners, together representing thousands of individual companies across Europe.

Job description

The intern will be working directly with OFE staff in the Brussels office. The responsibilities are determined by the interns interests and can include: :

  • Monitoring EU policy developments and alerting OFE’s network on relevant issues ;
  • Help in preparing and organising events and meetings with the community and policy makers ;
  • Help in preparing communication material for the website (press releases, white papers, policy statements) and social media ;
  • General office administration.

OFE offers a challenging and exciting experience with a dynamic organisation working internationally, and the opportunity to meet and work with senior figures in EU public affairs and the IT industry. The intern will be given genuine responsibilities with only a minimum amount of low-level office tasks.

This is a part-time position. They will accommodate for the possibility for the intern to be studying or have another job in parallel to this position.

Desired Profile

  • Some understanding of the EU decision making process ;
  • Demonstrable interest for the open-source software movement and in the IT industry ;
  • Fluent level of written and spoken English ; other EU languages considered an asset ;
  • Self starter, reliable, able to multi-task and prioritize own work ;
  • Good interpersonal and team-working skills ;
  • Computer and web literacy (in particular experience with social media, blogging, HTML/CSS, desktop publishing tool are considered a plus, but not required).

Start date : beginning of September 2015
Duration : 3 months (extendable to 6 months)
Remuneration : monthly stipend of €350
Location : Brussels
