International Advocacy Campaigner – PAX

PAX-NGO-logoPAX means peace. Together with people in conflict areas and concerned citizens worldwide, PAX works to build dignified and peaceful societies across the globe. PAX brings together people who have the courage to stand for peace. Everyone who believes in peace can contribute, whether it be sending an e-mail to policy makers, supporting peace activists in conflict areas, or developing an entirely new initiative to bring together people with shared objectives. PAX are convinced that all these steps, whether smal lor large, inevitably lead to the greater sum of peace.

Among others, PAX are supporting victims of grave human rights violations in the mining area of Cesar where thousands of people were murdered and tens of thousands people were displaced due to paramilitary violence. PAX will start an international campaign to call for remedy and recognition of the victims. To support this campaign PAX is looking for an

Tasks and responsibilities

Development and execution of the international advocacy campaign ‘The Dark Side of Coal’.

Supervised by the campaign coordinator: overall management of the international advocacy  campaign ‘The Dark Side of Coal’ in close cooperation with especially the program leader of the Colombia program and relevant departments at PAX head quarters; the extractives & conflict program and the Communications department.

This entails amongst others:

  • Execute the international lobby & advocacy campaigns, resulting in clear outcomes and greater name recognition of PAX
  • Ensure that these campaigns mobilize the resources and influence of civil society to the greatest possible effect. This process will involve advising on strategy, proposing tactics and then implementing diverse advocacy activities. These could include media work, lobbying, preparing reports and briefings and identifying and building relationships with potential allies inside and outside government
  • Reinforce and expand PAX’s network of partners. Work closely with the campaign coordinator to strenghten Pax’s international campaign capacity
  • Liase with a wide range of potential partners and demonstrate to them the added value of working in coalition and develop a public campaigning ‘tool kit’ that can be used by NGO-partners in different target countries
  •  Investigate and analyze policies in the target countries. Map relevant political and business actors and political decision making processes in target countries (Colombia, Germany, United States and possibly Switzerland and the United Kingdom) in relation to EU decision making
  • Develop and maintain international media relations. Actively build contacts with journalists from major international media outlets. This includes working with PAX’ partners to deliver high impact media coverage for our issue

The offer

  • A dynamic and highly international working environment
  • Appointment for 28,8 hours per week (0,8 FTE),  until 31-12-2015
  • Start as soon as possible
  • Salary between  € 2.288,- and € 3.325,- gross/month  (based on full 36 hours position)
