Policy Advisor – E3G

E3G-logoA global transformation to a low-carbon economy needs to happen over the next 50 years, if we are to limit global warming to below 2°C. Europe is the first major economy to commit to this scale of transformation, and as such will drive much of the necessary political, technological and social innovation needed to deliver the global transformation.

E3G is committed to help accelerate Europe’s pioneering role in developing the low carbon economy. E3G has been working in this area since 2004, with notable successes such as: influencing European debates on the low-carbon transition, including in the power sector; helping reframe EU political debates around energy, climate security and climate diplomacy; being a core partner in the landmark Roadmap 2050 study; and establishing a UK Green Investment Bank.

E3G wishes to strengthen its European team by hiring a policy advisor with a particular focus on low-carbon development in an urban context, and European decarbonisation challenges. The position will be based in Brussels.

Tasks will involve:

  • Research, analysis and report writing
  • Stakeholder engagement and advocacy outreach
  • Communication activities
  • Support to the team on other E3G programmes

Experience

The Policy Advisor will:

  • be committed to achieving E3G’s objectives, and to working in an innovative and entrepreneurial manner. She/he will have strong strategic and political understanding, will prioritise achieving outcomes over merely running activities, and be capable of inspiring and facilitating action by others;
  • have a degree in economics, business, engineering, or a closely related discipline;
  • have at least 3 years of professional experience;
  • have substantial and demonstrable knowledge in the area of energy policy, with an emphasis on energy markets, investment and/or technological innovation;
  • ideally, have expertise in the area of  urban development and/or regional economic transitions;
  • ideally, have very good understanding of energy systems and challenges;
  • have experience in multi-stakeholder processes and in building common ground around sensitive issues, creating and facilitating dialogue and agreement;
  • be used to operating internationally, with a high degree of cultural sensitivity;
  • have experience of building consensus in Europe around sensitive issues, creating and facilitating dialogue and agreement;
  • have excellent written and spoken English, and one other European language;
  • be able to operate confidently at an expert level, i.e. in the domains of government, business, finance, media, and civil society.

Terms

This position is programmed for until the end of the year, on a renewable contract, starting as soon as possible. The position is based in E3G’s Brussels office.
