Compliance Advisor – Monitoring and Reporting, SOS Children’s Villages International

The Advisor will actively champion speak-up, transparency and a culture of integrity throughout the federation, building upon SOS’ core values of courage, commitment, trust and accountability. This specifically includes the design and implementation of policies and procedures that encourage employees to report evidence of breaches of laws or internal regulations without the fear of retaliation. It also comprises coordinating and overseeing timely investigation and effective management of matters, providing direction and guidance to regional and local staff performing investigations around the world, and, if needed, taking an active role in investigation, resolution and follow up of matters. In addition, the position holder is in charge of driving risk assessments in compliance, focusing on corruption prevention, monitoring key control areas, and ensuring that key stakeholders locally and regionally are informed on relevant risks and implement appropriate remediation plans. The Advisor will also assist in preparation of reports and metrics for distribution to senior management, auditors, and other stakeholders.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement and oversee a federation-wide structured process that allows to report and respond to alleged violations of laws, regulations, policies, procedures, standards of conduct etc. by evaluating or recommending the initiation of investigative procedures (whistle-blower system)

  • This includes developing and overseeing a process for uniform handling of such complaints, including close collaboration with internal stakeholders, to direct issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution

  • Supervise, support, and/or lead investigations, in particular with corruption implications

  • Highlight deficiencies of policies and processes, identify deficiency causes, assess consequences of identified deficiencies and the associated level of risk

  • Design and implement corrective actions and remediation activities to the integrity and compliance programme as well as other federation internal policies, guidelines and processes, where applicable, and help ensure responsible management so that any compliance issues are adequately addressed

  • Counsel regional and local leadership teams on the design and implementation of corrective actions and ensure that corrective action standards are consistently applied across the federation

  • Periodically assess the integrity and compliance programme or components thereof in the different regions and partner with local operational teams to develop and implement appropriate risk-based recommendations

  • Coordinate internal compliance auditing, monitoring and/or review activities to assess the effectiveness of the integrity and compliance programme, identify and rank risks to help define prioritization of resources and activities

  • Identify and report trends, significant matters and compliance issues to senior management

  • Support regular reporting obligations (assist in the completion and maintenance of various reports and report statistics/trends; coordinate the review, presentation and release of information as well as alignment with stakeholders; etc.)

  • Work closely with the International Director on ad hoc compliance strategic initiatives

  • Manage special projects, as appropriate

Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in law, accounting, business administration or similar

  • Work experience of two or more years in compliance, specifically compliance investigations, or other governance areas, such as legal, quality control, internal controls, or external or internal audit highly desired

  • Knowledge of global anticorruption and data privacy laws would be an asset

  • Strong process management and strategic planning skills

  • Ability to analyse quantitative and qualitative data and create reports; develop charts and analysis to highlight trends, correlations and key issues

  • Proven ability to lead complex projects and collaborate within crossfunctional teams

  • Analysing skills to see potential problems/risks and identify compliance issues quickly, to synthesize impact and determine root cause while being objective

  • Ability to influence others to drive actions and unlock problems, without creating disruption

  • Strong customer service mind-set combined with networking abilities, interpersonal skills and intercultural understanding

  • Fluency in English, both verbally and in written form; German language skills a plus

  • Superior skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Adobe; SharePoint site administration skills welcome

  • Sensitivity to confidential matters, ability to maintain, respect and protect confidentiality
