Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Context:

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission, and the direct supervision of the Field Operations Assistant the incumbent is responsible to provide health services to vulnerable migrants and asylum seekers at transit points and border areas across Slovenia, ranging from emergency health care and stabilization, to referrals for secondary and tertiary care.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure the effective provision of health services to vulnerable migrants and asylum seekers at transit points and border areas across Slovenia, according to established MOH/ WHO treatment guidelines;

  2. Prepare the work schedule of the IOM mobile clinic, and ensure adherence to work plans.

  3. Oversee the safe referral process to secondary and/ or tertiary health facilities as appropriate;

  4. Manage the IOM inventories for pharmaceuticals, medical supplies and medical equipment; responsible for requesting the essential medicines and supplies needed for replenishment;

  5. Oversee medical data entry process of IOM medical records and supervise data entry personnel; ensure linkage of IOM clinical information with the national disease surveillance and response system;

  6. Conduct situational public health assessments, including but not limited to, general health, food, nutrition, water and sanitation and environmental health issues, etc at health project sites;

  7. Coordinate with local health authorities and partners in the implementation of activities within the Migration Health Programme in Slovenia;

  8. Assist in the development of and implementation of health information campaigns, distribution of IEC materials on the prevention and treatment of communicable diseases, psychosocial care and general health education, etc;

  9. Identify and train partners on migration health issues, and develop the relevant training materials as required;

  10. Ensure the confidentiality of all medical information related to beneficiaries;

  11. Produce periodical clinical and public health risk assessment reports in close coordination with the Field Operations Coordinator;

  12. Undertake duty travels as required.

  13. Undertake other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

a) Completed Medical Doctor degree from accredited academic institutions;

b) at least five years of clinical experience;

c) proven skills in coordinating multidisciplinary teams and establishing and maintaining working relations with senior government officials, UN agencies, NGOs and Donors, including familiarity with the humanitarian cluster system;

d) demonstrated ability to identify, approach, and coordinate with stakeholders of diverse backgrounds and levels of expertise;

e) demonstrated ability to supervise and direct staff and create team oriented environment;

f) demonstrated ability and willingness to work in difficult areas/situations; and drive for results;

g) strong level of analytical skills and computer literacy.

Languages:

  • Fluency in Slovenian and/or English required.

  • Working knowledge or fluency in one or more of the following languages: French, Arabic, Pashto, Urdu, and Dari is highly desirable.
