Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.


Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission, and the direct supervision of the Field Operations Assistant the successful candidate will be responsible for the implementation of IOM’s Emergency Response Programme in the assigned field locations to identity and assist vulnerable migrants and refugees, including victims of trafficking (including potentially trafficked persons), unaccompanied and separated children, stranded irregular migrants, and other categories of vulnerable populations in need of protection.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Perform initial assessment and identify vulnerable cases of refugees and migrants.

  • Implement visits to field locations and reception facilities/centres to conduct regular individual and group counselling for refugees and other migrants in need.

  • Coordinate with relevant authorities and civil society organizations and refer cases for further support.

  • Ensure the provision of care to all refugees and migrants is in line with IOM standards.

  • Ensure the confidentiality of personal information of the refugees.

  • Prepare case reports and recommendations and submit to relevant IOM teams.

  • Coordinate with the appropriate IOM Teams.

  • Undertake other duties as assigned.

  • Undertake duty travels as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • University degree in Social Work, preferably a Masters degree.

  • At least two years’ experience in direct work with beneficiaries / clients.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, personal commitment, efficiency and flexibility.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Awareness of refugee issues.

  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a team with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds.

  • Willingness to travel and to work under difficult conditions.

  • Fluency in Slovenian and/or English language.

  • Working knowledge or fluency in one or more of the following languages: French, Arabic, Pashto, Urdu, and Dari is highly desirable.

  • Previous experience in working with refugees or migrants will be a distinct advantage.
