JSPS Invitation Fellowships

cosmopolitalians.eu-logo-tmbApplications are invited for Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) invitation fellowships available for the researchers of all countries having diplomatic relations with Japan. JSPS conducts two programs (a short- and long-term program) under the Invitation Fellowship heading. These programs are intended to help advance the overseas researchers’ research activities while promoting science and internationalization in Japan. Up to 70 long term and 210 short term fellowships will be awarded (110 for Short-term 1st Recruitment and 100 for 2nd Recruitment). A few fellowships will be also awarded for Short-term S 1st Recruitment and 2nd Recruitment. Applications for this program must be submitted to JSPS by a host researcher in Japan through the head of his/her university or institution.

Eligibility:

Long-term [IF01]: As a rule, researchers who hold a full-time position in an overseas research institution and satisfy the following requirements:

-Be a citizen or a permanent resident of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan (JSPS treats Taiwanese and Palestinian researchers in this manner). To be eligible, researchers of Japanese nationality residing overseas must have lived in the other country for at least 10 years and been actively engaged in research in that country throughout the period.

-Overseas researchers in a position equivalent to a university professor, associate professor or assistant professor in Japan as of 1 April 2016.

-Overseas researchers who do not have above-mentioned careers but received their doctorate degree prior to six years or more as of 1 April 2016 and are continuing to do research in a university or non-profit research institution.

Short-term [IF02]: As a rule, researchers who hold full-time positions in an overseas research institution and satisfy the following requirements:

-Be a citizen or a permanent resident of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan (JSPS treats Taiwanese and Palestinian researchers in this manner). To be eligible, researchers of Japanese nationality residing overseas must have lived in the other country for at least 10 years and been actively engaged in research in that country throughout the period.

-Overseas researchers in a position equivalent to a university professor or associate professor as of 1 April 2016.

-Overseas researchers with an excellent record of research achievements.

Short-term S [IF03]:

-Be a citizen or a permanent resident of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan (JSPS treats Taiwanese and Palestinian researchers in this manner). To be eligible, researchers of Japanese nationality residing overseas must have lived in the other country for at least 10 years and been actively engaged in research in that country throughout the period.

-Overseas researchers who are Nobel laureates or recipients of similarly high-level international prizes with exceptionally outstanding records of research achievements and who currently occupy a leading position in their subject field.
