5. Scope of the Position:

The Office of the European Union Special Representative in Kosovo (EUSR) offers 3 months paid internship (with possibility for extension). This is an unique opportunity for outstanding graduate and postgraduate students to gain practical professional experience. The intern will be working in the EUSR office in Pristina, under the supervision of the Head of Communication Section/Spokesperson.

Internship programme offers interns the opportunity to follow the daily work of the office of Special Representative in Kosovo while learning about the representation of EU Interests and values outside the EU, providing the possibility of discovering directly the working environment of an international organization.

EUSR Office provides certain financial support for interns, though the successful candidates are expected to make their own arrangements for travel, living expenses and comprehensive medical and accident insurance valid in Kosovo during the internship period (covering hospitalization, surgery, and repatriation, if necessary).

Internship at the EUSR Office creates no contractual or employment relationship with the European Union or the Office of the EUSR. An intern is expected to follow the same working hours as the EUSR’s staff (38 hours per week).

6. Duties and Responsibilities:

Monitoring press and media developments in Kosovo of relevance for the implementation of the EUSR mandate; Research on and analysis of relevant communication and media matters; Liaison and communication with internal and external counterparts; Participation in the preparation of interviews, statements, press points, articles, speeches, online content and other public events; Contribution to and support of activities and projects relating to EUSR matters; Preparing and maintaining various media and distribution lists as well as creating and maintaining Communication Section archives of key documents; Support in processing incoming and outgoing correspondence in the Communication Section; Supporting Head of Communication Section/Spokesperson in administrative and logistics issues; Other tasks related to the implementation of the EUSR’s mandate.

7. Qualifications and Experience: 

To be considered for the internship the applicant must:

be citizen of one of the Member State of the European Union (EU) and enjoying full rights as a citizen (have a valid passport from one the EU member states);
have completed a minimum of three years of university-level courses in communication, international relations, social or political sciences, EU studies or other related field. A relevant master’s degree would be considered as an asset;
have not already benefited from previous in-service training, internship or employment (paid or unpaid) with any of the EU institutions or bodies, including a “Blue book” traineeship (NB. A “Blue book” candidate who has not actually performed that traineeship is however eligible to apply for an internship with the EUSR);
not to have more than one year of professional experience;
have excellent knowledge of the functioning of the EU and in particular of its Common Foreign and Security Policy;
have a sound understanding the political, cultural and security situation of the Balkans;
be self motivated and committed to continuous learning;
has excellent command of spoken and written English; excellent drafting skills. Knowledge of official language(s) in Kosovo would be considered as an asset;
have sharp analytical skills and capacity to write syntheses, coupled with high attention to detail.
