European Forum Alpbach Scholarships

Club Alpbach Brussels opens its call for applications for scholarships to attend the European Forum Alpbach 2016

Club Alpbach Brussels are delighted to invite you to apply for a scholarship with the Club Alpbach Brussels to attend this year’s European Forum Alpbach

From 17th August to 2nd September 2016 held in the village of Alpbach in the Austrian Alps.

What is the European Forum Alpbach?

Often called the Austrian version of the World Economic Forum of Davos, the European Forum Alpbach has been attracting leading thinkers and practitioners since 1945: economist Friedrich Hayek, physicist Erwin Schrödinger and philosopher Theodor Adorno attended regularly, as have more recently UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, and economist Jeffrey Sachs.

Every year, about 4,000 participants from over 60 countries meet to discuss emerging trends in eight broad fields: technology; law; European and international affairs; financial markets; economy; public health; higher education; and architecture and urban planning. Each of these fields has a dedicated “symposium” in the conference schedule. All of the events, however, are united by a loose, overarching theme: in 2016, the European Forum Alpbach takes on the question of “New Enlightenment”.

The offer

The Club Alpbach Brussels awards scholarships to cover the entire conference fee.

Travel, accommodation and meals are not covered although additional funds might be available. If you need help with these costs, please indicate this in your application.

Accommodation is reserved in central location for our scholarship holders.

Whom they are looking for

  • All students and recent graduates up to the age of 30 who study or work in Belgium are eligible to apply.
  • We are looking for individuals who represent a wide spectrum of opinions, and academic and professional backgrounds.
  • Ideally you plan to work and/or live in Brussels from September 2016, as we hope you will continue to play an active role in the Club. However, this is no mandatory requirement to apply.

Most if not all of the Forum’s events will be conducted in English so there’s no requirement to speak German.

If you fancy giving your summer a social and intellectual boost at 1,000 meters above sea level, then send them your application by 30th April 2016!
