Project Management Intern, Multiple positions – UNOPS mission is to serve people in need by expanding the ability of the United Nations, governments and other partners to manage projects, infrastructure and procurement in a sustainable and efficient manner.

UNOPS has recently established its presence in China with two projects recently signed with Chinese government entities, in which UNOPS will provide advisory and technical assistance services with its expertise in procurement, project management, as well as providing capacity building to key local stakeholders.

UNOPS’ China office has intern positions available all year round for the following functions: Project Management, Procurement, Partnership and Resource Mobilization, Finance, and Executive Support.


The responsibilities will be varied based on the working area under specific guidance of the designated Supervisor.

The typical tasks of the Intern will be:

Knowledge management support

• Conduct research on the targeted industry and market, and develop related analysis report;

• Research, draft, update and maintain potential partner profiles;

• Drafting knowledge stories/best practices;

• Assisting in the organization of conferences, forums or other collaborative events;

• Perform other related research duties as required.

Communication and implementation support:

• Collecting and cataloguing information;

• Contribute to communication tools to keep both internal and external clients informed of the work conducted by the China office;

• Translate a wide variety of internal and external documents, ensuring that all deadlines are met;

• Liaise with colleagues who have translation responsibilities, organizing and coordinating translation work, ensuring good quality translation;

• Interpret Chinese to English or English to Chinese in casual and formal meetings and events.

Administrative support:

• Daily management of office duties, such as phone calls, emails, visits and meetings and interacting with focal points;
• Overall support to Finance & Admin officer, such as travels arrangement, meetings, etc.;
• Assist in the preparation of unit meetings and workshops, including taking minutes/notes.


• Strategic thinking and analytical skills;

• Very strong oral and written communication skills in both English and Chinese;

• Experienced interpreter;

• Teamwork skills;

• Very good organization skills and methods and ability to undertake multiple tasks;

• Highly developed sense of responsibility and commitment to results;

• Ability to work in a multicultural environment;

• Interest in Food Safety.



All applicants must be enrolled in a university degree programme such as Bachelor, Masters or Ph.D. (or the equivalent), or have graduated from such studies within three years prior to the application date of the internship.


While no prior work experience is required, some professional experience in the following areas is highly desirable:

  • Applicants with thematic focus on Agricultural or Food Safety related areas would be preferred;

  • Experience and advance knowledge of MS Office tools is a requirement (Microsoft Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint);

  • Experienced in Chinese-English translation;

  • Full-time applicants are preferred.

Language requirements:

Fluency in written and spoken English and Chinese (Mandarin) is required.

Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend of maximum 3.000 RMB per month from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions.
