Programme Manager – People Helping People, Innovation Lab (Nesta)

Nesta is the UK’s innovation foundation that helps people and organisations bring great ideas to life by providing investments and grants and mobilising research, networks and skills.

Through the Innovation Lab, Nesta provides financial and practical support to hundreds of innovators across the UK each year. They support people and organisations that are developing ideas to solve big social challenges, from social entrepreneurs and creative digital startups, to councils and established charities with national reach.

Nesta is looking for an experienced programme manager to manage a portfolio of innovations to better engage volunteers within public service.

The role

● Manage a portfolio of innovations, setting up and managing grants and contracts, monitoring and reporting on progress, and providing proactive non-financial support for performance, growth and organisational development.

● Ensure that innovations are generating high quality evidence of impact, using methods appropriate for innovations at different stages of maturity, including randomization and control groups where appropriate, and support learning across the cohort.

● Scope areas of opportunity for Nesta, develop new areas of work and programmes that support practical innovation in defined fields, working closely with the relevant Director(s) and other senior colleagues, and in collaboration with external partners.

● Actively manage relationships with key stakeholders, suppliers and partners.

● Work with colleagues to orchestrate existing knowledge, capitalise on learning from the cohort and identify the most interesting innovations in the UK and internationally.

● Represent Nesta to a wide range of audiences, explaining our work. Ensure that projects are communicated effectively, identifying target audiences and developing and implementing strategies for engaging and influencing them.

The Person

● Entrepreneurial, with a track record of getting things done and achieving impact in your previous roles.

● Creative and interested in ideas and innovation.

● Demonstrable experience and knowledge of public service delivery and/or the role of volunteering / citizen engagement.

● Successful track record of leading the design and delivery of programmes.

● Very strong practical programme management skills.

● Experienced at managing budgets, suppliers and grant recipients.

● Direct experience supporting innovation to happen, for example managing innovative projects or working on an innovative venture.

● Good financial and business planning skills, with experience of creating or analyzing business plans.

● A natural collaborator, with a history of developing partnerships across a wide range of organisations.

● Demonstrable understanding of a range of different research methods.

● Excellent writing and presentation skills.

Salary: £40-50K plus benefits

Term: Fixed Term to June 2016

Location: London, UK
