Legal/Economic Analyst – WTO

World-Trade-Organization-WTOThe Secretariat of the World Trade Organization (WTO) is seeking to fill the position of Legal/Economic Analyst in the Trade in Services Division.

General Functions

The Trade in Services Division provides support and technical advice to WTO Members on the implementation of the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) and on further negotiations mandated by the Agreement. In this context, the incumbent will undertake the following responsibilities:

1. Under the supervision of the Director and with guidance from senior colleagues, provide substantive services-related analysis and advice to WTO bodies and negotiating groups, other WTO Divisions, senior management, WTO Members and acceding countries.

2. Conduct research on technical, economic and legal issues arising in the context of the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS). Provide written inputs on these and related issues for Secretariat Notes, WTO publications and presentational material, including for technical assistance purposes.

3. Perform a variety of back-up functions for more senior colleagues concerning developments in key service sectors and modes of supply. Update existing and develop new training material on such issues from a GATS perspective.

4. Deliver or contribute to the delivery of technical assistance concerning services trade and the GATS; give presentations at training seminars and other professionally relevant events.
