The European Savings Banks Group and the World Savings Banks Institute are looking for (m/f):

Economic Adviser

Main tasks:

  • Monitoring, analyzing and informing members on European and international economic developments in the area of retail financial services for instance Banking Structure Reform, securitization, shadow banking, or risk weighted assets (standardized approach and Internal Rating models);
  • contributing with economic analysis to ESBG’s positions and strategies in regulatory and policy discussions;
  • Providing economic input to the political and technical papers published by the ESBG/WSBI;
  • Responsibility for the ESBG/WSBI’s Economic Affairs Committee, i.e. preparing the meetings, drafting the agenda and background documents, reporting at the meeting as well as follow-up on decisions taken by the members;
  • Coordinating, formulating and presenting members’ positions in the relevant areas; in the form of drafting letters, position papers and responses to public consultations.
  • Liaising with EU and international authorities (EU Commission, EU Parliament, EBA, OECD, the ECB and other international bodies) on an ongoing basis to present the views of the ESBG/WSBI;
  • Undertaking research projects of relevance in the retail banking sector; in particular, on the impact of regulation on the activitiy of banks, the provision of credit and the general economy, including the preparation of articles for specialised press.
  • Preparation of minutes and background documents for meetings.

Required skills and competences:

  • Advanced University Degree in Economics;
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience, ideally in financial services;
  • Proven analytical and drafting skills;
  • Ability to work in an international team;
  • Motivated to develop research in specific retail banking areas on own initiative;
  • Fluent written and spoken German and English (other European languages are an advantage);
  • Relevant computer and presentation skills (Word, Powerpoint, Excel);
