The EU Delegation is looking for
A highly  experienced, communication professional with  an extensive network of contacts and the strategic mind to communicate on behalf of the European Union in Kenya on politics and regional affairs on security, trade, development, human rights through a wide array of tools and instruments (statements, speeches, traditional print, broadcast, digital and social media). The objective is to increase the understanding of various EU policies and values and the visibility of the EU in Kenya.

Using your strong background in Journalism and/or Public Relations you would develop and implement together with the management team a public diplomacy strategy on high-profile areas of EU engagement in Kenya and the region such as political dialogue, combating terrorism, piracy and violent extremism, development activities, infrastructure investment, food security, and trade relations and topics as they arise. You  would also monitor Kenya’s media landscape, media policy, maintain contacts to regulators and media organisations and assist in EU Delegation’s reporting to Headquarters on matters relating to freedom of expression and media.

You will be working directly with the EU Ambassador and the Head of Political, Press & Information Section as well as with the strategic communication division and spokesperson service in Brussels, the EU capital. Your work implies frequent contacts with a large number of EU officials and a vast array of subjects of political or technical nature.

You will join the Political Press and Information Section, which has a budget for public diplomacy that will be used for communication purposes.

Main responsibilities
 Propose a clear and targeted strategy of communication and information on various topics to specific and larger audiences and identify the most suitable tools to reach the communication objectives
 Prepare proactive and reactive EU media activities including press releases, tweets, briefings, interviews, visits,
 Assist the Delegation in developing targeted messages, brochures, speeches and other media content
 Establish and maintain contacts with EU Member States Embassies (possibly occasional joint meetings on communication), the Government of Kenya at all levels, Kenyan and international media, civil society, media organisations and other external bodies
 Upkeep of media contacts including mailing and mobile phone lists and increase media awareness of all staff
 Take the lead in media relations.
 Analyse Kenyan media coverage daily and advice on response.
 Draft and assist in the implementation of external and internal communication strategies including through planning activities financed from the P&I budget and reporting on their implementation and impact
 Maintain and update the Delegation website and social media presence including Twitter and Facebook
 Contribute to reporting mainly on media issues under the authority of the Head of Section
