A Citizens’ Agora to combat youth unemployment

ep-logoThe European Parliament’s Citizens’ Agora on Youth Unemployment aims to gather young people from all over Europe to discuss the current challenges in Europe’s employment market. Two young people from each Member State of the European Union, aged between 18 and 30, will be invited to this conference – one who is employed and one who is unemployed. They will debate with participants from the other Member States, with the assistance of experts on a number of specific topics related to youth unemployment. The recommendations coming out of this Citizens’ Agora will be communicated to European decision makers.

Participants in the Citizens’ Agora on Youth Unemployment should be between 18 and 30 years old and reside in one of the EU’s 28 Member States. As the debates will be held in English, French, German or Spanish it is essential that participants are able to debate in one of these languages. Passive translation will also be available in Greek, Italian, Portuguese and Polish, meaning participants will be able to listen to the debate in these languages. However they should be able to intervene in the debate in one of the four languages mentioned above (English, French, German or Spanish).

Interested participants should fill out the application form before 31 August 2013. They should have the authorisation to travel, as certain unemployment agencies may impose travel restrictions. The European Parliament can provide participants with an attendance certificate.

The selection process will take place during the first week of September 2013.

Transport and accommodation costs of all participants will be covered by the European Parliament.
