Writing Contest – What impress you most about Europe (Open to Vietnamese citizens)

eeas-logoA writing contest on the theme of the European Union – Vietnam relations has been launched  in Vietnam. This contest is co-organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam and the Vietnam Student Newspaper, as part of commemorative activities being held throughout 2015 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the EU-Vietnam diplomatic ties establishment.

The contest, an initiative of the Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam, is open to all Vietnamese citizens under 35 year old residing in the country. This contest aims at promoting mutual understanding between the European Union and Vietnam, particularly raising the awareness of Vietnamese young generation of the EU’s presence in the country. Participants are invited to express their perception, integration and initiative as well as to share their experiences on important and pressing issues of the EU-Vietnam bilateral cooperation through a piece of creative writing or a story.

Being established on October 22nd 1990, the diplomatic relations between the European Union and Vietnam has gone from strength to strength over the past 25 years. Indeed, the bilateral ties have developed robustly from an initial focus on aid to a broader and more diversified partnership, including political dialogue and strong economic links. The European Union has never become so visual and tangible in Vietnamese people’s awareness.

Speaking about the contest, Dr Franz Jessen, Ambassador – Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam shared, “I am delighted to say that the relationship between the EU and Vietnam are currently so close and good, creating every day new cooperation opportunities in all possible fields for both sides. However, the European Union is ambitious in building an even more solid partnership and brighter future with Vietnam. We believe that Vietnam’s young generation will be the one who creatively construct such a promising future and their understanding about the European Union will also be the key to that.”

The contest will run until 5 May 2015. One participant can submit more than one entry.

Shortlisted entries will be judged by a jury, consisting of prominent diplomats and renowned writers. These include Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy – Director of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, Poet Hong Thanh Quang, Editor –in-Chief of Dai Doan Ket Newspaper, Mr Nguyen Huy Loc – Editor-in-Chief of Sinh Vien Newspaper and writer Phan Hon Nhien.

A special prize award ceremony will take place on 21 May with values of main prizes as follows:

One 1st prize: a return ticket to Brussels
Two 2nd prizes: an Iphone 6
Three 3rd prizes: an Ipad mini
