Tomorrow’s Peacebuilders Awards

cosmopolitalians.eu-logo-tmbTomorrow’s Peacebuilders is global award for local peacebuilding. Awarded annually, they offer international recognition for grassroots peace activists in conflict-affected countries worldwide. They are inspiring individuals who are building a better tomorrow for their communities, in the world’s most fragile and needy places.

The Tomorrow’s Peacebuilders awards were launched in 2013 by Peace Direct. This award is the only one of this kind in the world. The winners receive global publicity and cash prizes. They are chosen by an international panel of experts including distinguished practitioners, political figures and media.

  • Women;
  • Youth;
  • Environment;
  • Inter-religious;
  • Arts.

Eligibility

These are global awards. There is no geographical restriction on applications. In order to be eligible to enter, you must:

  • Undertake peacebuilding work – your organisation is either a peacebuilding organisation or has peacebuilding as a substantial element of your work;
  • Be locally based – your organisation must be based in the country or communities where your work will be done. If your organisation operates in multiple countries, you are not eligible to enter. (Note cross-border projects are eligible.);
  • Be an independent organisation, not an in-country or satellite organisation of an international NGO;
  • Be working, or planning to work, in at least one of the following thematic areas: women-led peace-building; youth peacebuilding; environmental peacebuilding; inter-religious peace-building; arts and peacebuilding; or technology and peacebuilding.

Prizes

Main Awards

Three winning organisations will receive USD 10,000 each, an invitation to attend a winners’ event in London, and online promotion of their work.

Technology and peacebuilding

Alongside the main prize and categories, the organisation that makes best use of technology in their work will receive a scholarship to attend the “Build Peace 2016″ conference in Zurich, Switzerland, and become a Build Peace Fellow, receiving additional support for their peacebuilding work.

Photography prize

In a addition to finding the best examples of local peace-builders, Tomorrow’s Peacebuilders is looking for photos that illustrate the theme of ‘local peace-building’. Prizes:

  • Winner USD 600;
  • Runner up USD 400.
