Reviser, Chinese – UN Office at Nairobi

un-careersThe United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. UNONsupports programme implementation of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, conference and information services (www.unon.org). 

This post is in the Chinese Translation & Text Processing Unit, located in the Translation and Editorial Section of the Division of Conference Services (DCS), UNON.

Under the direct supervision of the Chief, Chinese Language Unit, the Chinese Reviser performs the following main tasks: 

(1)    Translates texts, mostly without revision, and revises translations dealing with a broad range of subjects dealt with by the United Nations, particularly those subjects requiring experience and recognized proficiency, often within demanding time limits.  

(2)   Develops new terminology for use where none exists in the target language.   

(3)   Carries out linguistic research and prepares terminological bulletins and glossaries, technical vocabularies and related reference tools.   

(4)   Counsels and assists translators and briefs them on the procedures and practices of the Unit, terminology and a broad range of subjects, as required.   

(5)   Participates in the setting of terminology standards. Supervises the work of small groups of translators.   

(6)   Performs other related duties as required.
