Position summary

GRI has established an exciting new function – Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) – with the aim of conducting and collecting research, data and evidence of the value and impacts of sustainability reporting. The MEL Manager is a new position at GRI, this is an opportunity for an experienced professional to build this essential element into GRI’s daily work and activities.

Job purpose and responsibilities

The main aim will be to steward GRI’s theory of change, and gather evidence as to whether or not it is being achieved. Evidence will be used to help guide GRI’s strategy and priorities, in donor and foundation relations, and to be made available to GRI’s wider network as a part of the ongoing dialogue about the future of reporting and how to ensure the practice is of greatest value to companies and their stakeholders. GRI seeks to develop a body of evidence that sustainability reporting, based on a global common standard, contributes to more responsible business conduct and therefore a more sustainable world.

Core responsibilities

  • Designing and setting up the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning system in collaboration with colleagues
  • Review of GRI’s Theory of Change and design of associated evidence gathering program
  • Ensuring smooth daily running of MEL function
  • Preparation of an annual MEL report with case studies
  • Frequent reporting and presentation to internal audiences of MEL findings and recommendations
  • Ensuring MEL element in all programs and assuming responsibility of implementation, follow and reporting of these initiatives
  • Coordinating and being in charge of all programs evaluations, research projects and case studies in GRI and with partners
  • Contribute to GRI’s proposal development and donor reporting with MEL elements
  • Staying on top of relevant research in the field sustainability and sustainability reporting and ensuring ongoing information flow of external research to management and teams
  • Ensuring MEL findings turning into implemented learning
  • Other duties as requested

Requirements

  • Proven track record in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning area with at least five years of experience
  • Proven ability to develop MEL system and run it
  • Excellence on data collection, evaluation, research, overseeing research projects
  • Experience in building and managing relationships and networks
  • Proven track record in project management and tendering processes
  • Financial and budgeting capability
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills in English. Other language skills would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of the fields of sustainability and international development
  • Goal- and deadline driven; proven track record to deliver in time against the highest possible quality
  • Highly organized with an ability to work independently whilst presenting strong teamwork skills
  • Good social skills, friendly and easy to approach working style
  • Able to work in an international and multi-cultural setting
  • Affinity with the mission and vision of GRI

Start Date: A.S.A.P., 40 hrs p/w. (€ 40,000.- / € 45,000.- gross per year on full time basis)

Location: Amsterdam, the Netherlands
