Junior Professional – Congress Communications, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)

Under the general supervision of the Congress Communications Officer – Global Communications Unit, the Junior Professional will carry out the following tasks:

Work with IUCN Global Communications Unit and IUCN World Conservation Congress team to:

1. Support efforts to develop and maintain media partnerships for the Congress including:
– Liaising with IUCN Programmes, Commissions and Member organisations to source content.
– Providing logistical support to media partners before and during the Congress.
– Tracking progress and ensuring timely delivery of key components of IUCN and media partner commitments.

2. Support communications efforts in the lead-up to the Congress:
– Source content and images.
– Support delivery of email newsletters using IUCN’s email distribution system.
– Maintain content on the Congress website.
– Facilitate the production of Congress-related videos and other marketing materials.
– Assist with securing necessary translations for Congress-related content.
– Develop and implement social media mini-campaigns to promote Congress, working closely with the IUCN Communications Officer responsible for social media.

3. Provide general support to the Global Communications Unit as required.

Other responsibilities
The above job description contains the main duties and responsibilities for this position. However, in a small organisation such as IUCN, staff members are expected to show flexibility in their approach to work and be willing to undertake other tasks that are reasonably allocated to them, but which are not part of their regular job description. Where any task becomes a regular part of an employee’s responsibilities, the job description will be changed in consultation with the employee and the Human Resources Management Group.

REQUIREMENTS

• University degree, preferably at the Master’s level, in International Relations, Journalism, Communications, Public Affairs or similar relevant field;

• Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail, ability to organise technical information into clear narratives;

• Sound knowledge of social media;

• Well-organised, reliable and able to work under tight deadlines;

• Strong technical skills; experience with email distribution applications, customer/contact relationship management systems and content management systems (Drupal) highly desirable;

• Familiarity with video and audio editing software an asset (Adobe Premier and/or Final Cut);

• Languages: English – native speaker or equivalent proficiency required; French and Spanish a plus;

• Ability to travel, including potentially to Hawaii 30 August -11 September 2016;

• Strong interpersonal and presentation skills. Confidence in interacting with IUCN experts, external partners and journalists, and in representing IUCN;
