Internship – Eurodiaconia, Brussels, Belgium

Eurodiaconia-logoEurodiaconia is offering 2 intern positions in the Brussels office. One internship will run from the beginning of September 2015 until June 2016 and the second from October 2015 until February 2016 (exact dates to be agreed with the successful candidates).

Candidates should be pro-active, flexible and with the ability to multi-task and manage their own working time.

Eurodiaconia represents a dynamic, Europe wide community of organisations founded in the Christian faith and working together in the tradition of Diaconia, that are committed to a Europe of solidarity, equality and justice. Eurodiaconia and its members work to bring about positive change for people and society.

Tasks of the internships will include

Research on Social Policy Topics including but not limited to

  • Europe 2020 and the European Semester
  • Long Term Care
  • Household over-indebtedness and financial inclusion

Policy

  • Assisting in the monitoring and reporting of the discussions around current social policy topics and contributing to the development of Eurodiaconia strategy in these areas
  • Supporting the policy officers on other issues as they arise
  • Attending relevant meetings, including in the EU institutions, and reporting back

Other

  • Assisting in the organisation of Eurodiaconia meetings and events in Brussels and abroad
  • Assisting with project applications as required
  • Writing articles for the Eurodiaconia E-news letter and website
  • Providing information to members on EU funding opportunities
  • Any other tasks as identified

Expected:

– an ability to appreciate and relate to the Eurodiaconia mission, vision and values

– knowledge of the EU institutions

– relevant university studies or equivalent work experience

– information gathering/research experience and ability to write texts that are reader-friendly

– excellent people skills and written and oral communication skills

– excellent command of written and spoken English, ideally also German and/or French

– IT literacy

The candidate should either qualify for the “Stagiaire scolaire” system and be able to undertake the internship as part of her/his studies and where there shall be no remuneration, or for the “Convention d’immersion professionnelle” where this should be the first paid employment in Belgium and where the salary shall follow the guidelines set by the Belgian state. Lunch vouchers and assistance with travel costs (subject to distance) plus hospital insurance are also provided.
