Information Technology/Administrative Assistant, GS – IRENA

International-Renewable-Energy-Agency-IRENA-logoThe International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an inter-governmental organisation mandated with the widespread and increased adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy. At present, IRENA has 140 Members (139 States and the European Union) that acceded to its Statute, and 32 additional States in the process of accession and actively engaged. IRENA supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future, and serves as the principal platform for international cooperation, a centre of excellence, and a repository of policy, technology, resource and financial knowledge on renewable energy. The Agency implements its mandate with the view to sustainable development, increased energy security and low-carbon economic growth and prosperity.

IRENA Innovation and Technology Centre (IITC) is responsible for the provision of the means for an accelerated renewable energy technology uptake, considering national conditions of resource endowment, social and economic frameworks. In accordance with the IRENA Statute, activities in this field include analysis of renewable energy technology policies; dissemination of information and increased awareness; technologies and equipment overview and assessment of success-failure factors; improved pertinent knowledge and technology transfer, and joint RD&D and provision of information about the development and deployment of national and international technical standards in relation to renewable energy.

Under the direct supervision of the Director of IITC and within delegated authority, the IT/Administrative Assistant will be responsible for supporting all aspects of first and second line ICT support duties along with general administrative duties like inventory management, filing systems management, and general administrative duties and will, in particular:

ICT Desktop Administration and Support:

  • Provide hardware and software support to end-users for standard ICT equipment like laptop computers, monitors, printers, phones etc.;

  • Assist in routine installation, configuration, testing and deployment of server hardware and software, including Local Area Network, operating systems, electronic mail, database systems, Internet web software, firewall, Domain Name Server (DNS), DHCP, mail relay, and various security software; etc.;

  • Maintain the documentation of server systems, pertinent to operations and system administration;

  • Maintain and enhance the IRENA’s various web platforms, databases and knowledge systems;

  • Provide basic training to end-users on the use of standard systems;

Administrative support:

  • Assist in the preparation, physical compilation, dissemination and shipments of IRENA publications in close coordination with Publications/Communications team;

  • Manage and monitors inventory levels and records;

  • Sort, compile, and store equipment in accordance with work orders and/or equipment condition;

  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Post-secondary education/courses in IT/administration would be an asset.

Experience: Five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in the field of information technology, budget, finance, procurement or other related field. Experience working in international organizations is an asset. Excellent computer skills in Windows environment, knowledge of internet communications and command of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, and Power Point) and experience in the use of web based management systems.

Language: Excellent command of written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of other languages is desirable.
