European Visibility & Reporting Officer

Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Director of WFP’s Brussels Office (BRU), in coordination with the Donor Visibility Coordinator in WFP HQ and the EU Policy and External Relations Officer in BRU, and in charge of the work of a junior consultant, the European Visibility and Reporting Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Coordinate WFP’s visibility activities vis-à-vis the EU institutions (ECHO & DEVCO in particular) and the Kingdom of Belgium;
  • Explore opportunities to increase media interest around WFP’s mandate and operations;
  • Oversee BRU’s contact with WFP Country Offices (Communications officers/focal points), providing guidance and support to ensure that WFP’s visibility commitments to the EU are realistic and achievable;
  • Represent WFP at the Brussels’ UN Communication Group and other joint UN initiatives in Belgium;
  • Strengthen links/coordination with other WFP offices in European capitals;
  • Explore opportunities to establish relationships with schools, universities, think-tanks and the private sector;
  • Organise EU/WFP visibility events;
  • Manage BRU’s online and social media presence;
  • Coordinate the implementation of the WFP-ECHO, international, multimedia communications campaign ‘The Family Meal – What Brings Us Together?’;
  • Apply for, and if successful, design and coordinate the implementation of future EU-wide communications campaigns in collaboration with WFP field offices, WFP’s other European offices and HQ;
  • Conceptualise, design and implement a communication strategy to increase public awareness about global food and nutrition security, and recognition of WFP in eastern and southern EU Member States (in collaboration with BRU’s EU Policy and External Relations Officer and WFP HQ);
  • Organise, coordinate and participate in media missions bringing EU journalists to WFP’s field operations;
  • Ensure timely responses to direct or indirect requests for information about the work of WFP to promote better understanding of its objectives and activities;
  • Draft press releases, materials for pamphlets, brochures and multimedia programmes for external distribution to the public, the media, educational institutions, non-governmental agencies and donors, as required by BRU;
  • Draft, design and produce an Annual Report on the WFP-EU partnership;
  • Arrange media briefings and interviews for the WFP Brussels director and visiting managers from WFP (Executive Director (ED), Deputy EDs, Country and Regional Directors);
  • Analyse and keep up to date on activities and political and social events that may be of interest or affect WFP within the assigned geographical area (EU institutions and Belgium);
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications required:

·       The successful candidate should have at least five years of professional experience in media relations and/or journalism in EU, humanitarian and/or development affairs.

·       The successful candidate must be a university graduate in disciplines relating to political science, journalism, communications, European affairs, international development and/or humanitarian affairs.

·       The successful candidate must be fluent in spoken and written English to the standard of a native speaker, and have a similar level in either French or Dutch, preferably both. A good knowledge of the EU Institutions is essential.
