Comprising of more than 100 partners, such as industries, research centres and universities from 22 EU Member States the EIT Raw Materials, a Knowledge and Innovation Community funded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, is the largest and strongest consortium in the raw materials field globally.

The aim of this consortium is to increase the competitiveness, growth and attractiveness of the European raw material sector. This process is underpinned by intensive innovation and entrepreneurship. The start-up new consortium has been initiated and interim management team have commenced its work in January 2015.

EIT Raw Materials invests in the development of Raw Materials talent and innovation activity in areas that are of strategic importance for Europe including primary and secondary resources or recycling of materials as well as material substitution. The investments drive pan-European education and innovation activities geared towards the delivery of high-impact results with companies.

The activities of EIT Raw Materials are executed throughout the European raw materials ecosystem and are driven by transnational Co-location Centres (CLCs) which are based in Espoo (FI), Leuven (BE), Luleå (SE), Metz (FR), Rome (IT), Wroclaw (PO) and the Headquarter in Berlin (DE).

In order to drive the operations of EIT Raw Materials in the Eastern CLC, EIT Raw Materials is looking for a Co-location Centre Manager.

Role description Eastern CLC Manager

• Leads the Eastern CLC operations and is responsible for overall functioning of the Eastern CLC, ensuring smooth cooperation with and across EIT Raw Materials organization

• Develops and executes Eastern CLC Strategy with active participation of Eastern CLCSteering Group and Partners

• Drives and monitors the activities of the EIT Raw Materials in the Eastern CLC region

• Supervises the portfolio of KIC Activities and projects at the Eastern CLC level, as well asrelationships with other CLC Managers and external stakeholders at the local level

• Represents of EIT Raw Materials at the transnational CLC level. Communicates, developsand manages relationships with various stakeholders at national and transnational CLClevel

• Manages partnerships in the geographic area served by the Eastern CLC

• Maintains and develops relationships with Eastern CLC Partners and recruits new Partners

• Actively facilitates contacts and innovation activities between Partners attachedto the Eastern CLC with Partners attached to other CLCs to stimulate new constellationsof cooperation across Europe

• Connects to and liaises with national innovation programs, local partners and nationalgovernment bodies across the Eastern CLC region to contribute to the financialsustainability of EIT Raw Materials

• Supports and develops business and education activities in collaboration with Officerand Business Developer(s) and Education Officer

• Actively participates in policy creation expert groups, and in lobbing and supporting of RawMaterials activities at international and national level

• Drives and monitors Eastern CLC communication policy within the EIT Raw Materialsframework.

• Reports to the CEO of the EIT Raw Materials (line manager headquartered in Berlin,Germany)

• Manages the CLC staff such as the Education Manager, Business Developer(s), FinancialOfficer and the rest of supporting CLC team (altogether ca. 5-10 persons). The CLC Teamis located in various Eastern CLC countries

Requirements

The CLC Manager will have a proven track record with:

• At least 5 years of experience in strategic, project, budget and team management

• Ideally in international context and matrix organization(s)

• Experience in innovation management, business development and R&D, preferablyacross different organisations (industry, universities) and in raw materials topicswould be an extra asset

• Extensive and appropriate network of personal contacts in the Central and EasternEuropean raw materials innovation ecosystem would be an extra asset.

The CLC Manager will be a role model in leadership characteristics such as:

• Solid business judgment, orientation for progress, and practical applicationof technical solutions

• Broad, flexible and interdisciplinary thinking

• Openness and partnership orientation – ability to connect people and organizations across broad range of topics and across natural market boundaries in order to share knowledge and create value; capacity for building alliances between industry, public sector, research, education and other stakeholders with relevance for innovation

The CLC Manager will have the following skills:

• Strong identification with KIC Raw Materials vision; strong own vision for EasternCLC, drive and motivation to act

• Ability to problem-solve – structure and analyze complex issues as well as thinkconceptually

• Team working ability with excellent leadership and communication skills that canoperate also on a strategic level with EIT Raw Materials partners and stakeholders

• Strong interpersonal skills to engage, animate, facilitate, influence, convince,motivate and mentor various groups and individuals

• Efficient meetings management and organization; and facilitation of groupsin workshop or conference formats

• Flexibility in use of diverse communication tools – including remote teammanagement tools

• High work-ethics, proactivity and autonomy in work-organization, coordinationand discipline

• Positive, encouraging style, personality and approach

• Flexibility and ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities

• Fluency in English; knowledge of Polish and German would be an asset.

Employment & Travel

Employment is by the EIT Raw Materials Headquarters or Eastern Co-location Centre.

The physical location is in Wroclaw, Poland.

The Eastern CLC Manager position is a full-time permanent position.

The Eastern CLC Manager needs to be prepared to travel several times per month to the EasternCLC countries and to different EIT Raw Materials locations across Europe.
